Swallowtail is one of the best known butterflies in Europe. The most similar species found in Serbia is the scarce swallowtail, from which could easily be distinguished by the more intensive yellow colouration. It is mostly found in calcareous rocky habitats, but can be found in other warmer places including human settlements where the caterpillars could develop on cultivated dill. At the top of the hills and mountains, during the mating season, it is common to observe males in a large numbers.. This is the most common species from the genus Papilio in Europe and the only one found in Serbia..
